Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of Wigtown Agricultural Society will take place on Thursday 14th December at 7.30pm, upstairs in our Bladnoch Park pavilion, to which you are warmly invited.

In addition to the regular AGM business, the results of our survey will be on display and our chairman Kenneth Adams will give an update on the Pavilion Redevelopment Project. Tea and coffee will be served after the meeting so please stay and chat.  Should you be unable to attend, a short report from the AGM will be sent to local Press and put on our website after the meeting.

New Secretary/Treasurer

Thank you to everyone who showed interest/applied for the Secretary/Treasurer position. Interviews were held at beginning of June and all applicants have been notified by email. Congratulations to the successful applicant, Richard Oxley; he will take on the position at December 2017's AGM.

Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting took place on Wednesday 7th December 2016 at 7.30pm in Bladnoch Park pavilion.

As per discussions at recent AGM’s, the Directors have been progressing the concept of a single storey pavilion which would be suitable for all our members (the current building has no disabled access).  Draft plans were on display at the AGM and our chairman, Kenneth Adams updated members on the story so far (it's a slow moving project which is some way off becoming reality!)

Everyone stayed and enjoyed tea and coffee and a chat after the meeting.

After Show Meeting

The After Show Meeting took place on Monday 15th August at Bladnoch Park pavilion. This was an open meeting where constructive feedback was welcomed to help shape future Wigtown Shows.

Social Sunday

The miserable damp morning on 10th July and the lure of the Wimbledon final kept many people at home however our third Social Sunday was still a success. A big thank you to everyone who came to support it, £350 was raised which will be put towards maintenance of Bladnoch Park. The Ayrshire Commercial Vintage Vehicle Club and Wigtownshire Driving Club were the main attractions and there were displays from both Galloway Tanks and PIRSAC. Machars Young Farmers kindly ran the side shows. After the lorries departed, some of the youngsters had a go with Girds & Cleeks but football seemed to be the preferred sporting activity! The donations of home baking, food from Ballard’s Catering, drinks from Select Bars were appreciated by all and made it a sociable and relaxed afternoon.

Wigtown Show Archive

The Society is gathering footage of old Wigtown Shows for their archive. So if you come across any slides or cine film which you’d be happy to share, please get in touch with the secretary Helen McColm on 01988-860233 or email above address as soon as possible.

Quiz Night

Thank you to everyone who supported our Quiz Night on 21st November 2015. It was a fun and sociable evening and raised £300 for Society funds. The competition was fierce but after a tie-break question, "T in the Dark" were announced as the winners and presented with their first prize rosettes & prize money by our Chairman (photo opposite).

Wigtown Show has been lucky enough to feature recently in not one, but TWO children's books! Duncan Dunbar's Epic Wigtown Show Adventure by Mary Cowan is aimed at 8-10 year olds while Big Bill the Beltie Bull is a beautifully illustrated book for younger children - you'll recognise the showfield!

Major drainage and road widening work took place at Bladnoch Park during 2012-13. This was made possible by generous donations from many people and has greatly improved the facility for the future.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated or contributed in any way to ensuring the improvements were made in time for the 2013 show.
